Meet Freddy,
Freddy Peralta has been arrested nine times since June 15th, 2020. He was recently charged with three felonies for exercising his first amendment right to protest. The Miami Police Department is actively trying to silence Freddy for his role in peaceful demonstrations held at the Torch of Friendship on Biscayne Boulevard every day since May 30, 2020. Their actions demonstrate a clear case of targeting, intimidation, and harassment.
Freddy has met with local law enforcement numerous times and has daily conversations with them. They claim to want to work with him, but their actions suggest otherwise. Their behavior is representative of an abuse of power and coordinated attempts to quell his peaceful demonstrations.
We’re asking that you join us in demanding State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle drop ALL charges against Freddy. We MUST protect the right to protest. We MUST stop these abuses by the MPD before they seriously hurt Freddy or one of the other protesters.
Freddy has been fighting for equal justice and civil rights reform for forty years. After the most recent wave of nationally publicized deaths of black men and women at the hands of law enforcement (and other self appointed vigilantes), he acted swiftly. Here’s a timeline for you to get to know Freddy.
Since Freddy began exercising his first amendment right to protest, the Miami Police Department has taken notice. He was first arrested on June 15th, for failure to obey.
Resolute in his efforts, after five more arrests (6/16, 6/19, 6/24, 6/29, and 6/30), MPD began escalating their actions towards Freddy and ignoring times he was in harm.
On June 26th, Freddy participated in a march towards Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle’s office. While directing traffic, he was hit by an automobile. The Police refused to detain the driver and let him free. They accused Freddy of “taking a ride on his hood”.
On June 27th, protestors marched and occupied I-395. As protestors were retreating the police deployed tear gas and rubber bullets on the crowd, video shows Freddy on the frontlines.
On July 1st, things escalated, as the Police violently pulled Freddy from the sidewalk where he was peacefully protesting after complying with their order to move off of the street. In videos, you see where he was targeted and pulled from the sidewalk as he was aggressively arrested, for the 7th time.
On July 7th, he was arrested an eighth time. The reasoning is unclear as video evidence shows him using the crosswalk, with the pedestrian right of way with showing, before being detained.
On July 16th, the Police again targeted Freddy and the group of protesters. This time they went after a protester who has also been arrested multiple times along with Freddy, most recently, two days prior for her role in a demonstration calling on justice for Breonna Taylor. As he questioned her arrest, and went to protect her, they once again grabbed Freddy, this time charging him with three felonies including battery on a police officer, and three misdemeanors all with elevated bonds.
Out of Freddy’s 9 arrests, he’s facing 20 charges, as well as unjust fines.

Freddy Peralta ha sido arrestado nueve veces desde el 15 de junio de 2020. Recientemente fue acusado de tres delitos graves por ejercer su derecho de protesta de la primera enmienda. El Departamento de Policía de Miami está tratando activamente de silenciar a Freddy por su papel en las manifestaciones pacíficas que se llevan a cabo en la Antorcha de la Amistad en Biscayne Boulevard todos los días desde el 30 de mayo de 2020. Sus acciones demuestran un caso claro de ataques, intimidación y acoso.
Freddy ha estado luchando por la igualdad de justicia y la reforma de los derechos civiles durante cuarenta años. Después de la ola más reciente de muertes de hombres y mujeres negros publicadas a nivel nacional a manos de las fuerzas del orden (y otros autoproclamados justicieros), actuó con rapidez. DEBEMOS detener estos abusos por parte del MPD antes de que lastimen gravemente a Freddy oa alguno de los otros manifestantes.
